Bytle is a puzzle game by James Livesey! Inspired by the Wordle craze, it trades words for an 8-bit binary sequence.
And it’s a great exercise in mental math and logical thinking for programming and math geeks (or just for anyone searching for something different to play with that isn’t just another word-guessing game).
Your goal is to correctly identify a mystery 8-bit binary sequence within a limited number of guesses. Since it is an 8-bit system, the answer is always a number between 0 and 255.
When you enter a number, Bytle converts it into a binary sequence and displays it on the grid. The cells change color to indicate accuracy: Green means the binary digit (bit) is correct in both value and position; Yellow means the digit exists in the answer but is in the wrong position; and Gray/White means the digit is completely incorrect.
To begin decoding, you need to familiarize yourself with binary conversion. The positions within the 8-bit sequence correspond to the following decimal values: 128 - 64 - 32 - 16 - 8 - 4 - 2 - 1.
Enter a number between 0 and 255. The game board will break your number down into 8 individual bits. Pay attention to the green cells. For example, if you enter 128 and the leftmost cell turns green, you know for certain that the answer includes the value 128.
Based on the incorrectly colored cells, adjust the bits in your mind and sum the decimal values at the new "1" bit positions to generate the next decimal number. The game ends when you find the decimal number that produces a sequence of eight green cells.
Have a great time playing Bytle!
